The explosive eruption of the volcano continues.
A heavy and extensive dusk followed a minor eruption from Aira caldera, starting shortly before 09:00 local time this morning.
The eruption has been strongly bursting for nearly 56 minutes, spewing dense grey ash emissions. Most of the edifice has been covered by heavy fine ash material and hidden from view. From available time-lapse video and images, the fine ash seemed to be partially denser than the surrounding air, and this is why it collapsed and travelled along the slopes toward the volcano's base. The plume reached about 5,000 ft (1,500 m) altitude and extended southeast.
Magma is being stored in magma chamber within the Aira caldera where continues to accumulate in the long-term period.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.
