Reykjanes Peninsula (Iceland): ground deformation started, likelihood of new batch of magma at shallow levels

The IMO's GPS and InSAR instruments detected onset of a new uplift, located west of Thorbjörn at 4-5 km depth.

This is likely reflecting continued magma intrusion and migration under the surface, supported also by registered local deformation of the surface.
More than 3000 earthquakes have been detected nearby Eldvörp in the Reykjanes/Svartsengi volcanic system over the past week, of which 9 have been recorded with magnitude of >M 3 and two above M 4.
