News of Alaid Volcano

A new eruptive phase at the volcano started on 15 September at about 00:39 local time.

The explosive activity appears to be strombolian-type in origin and continues at moderate levels.
A gas and water vapor plume containing some amount of ash is extending about 32 km to the E-SE of the volcano.
A satellite image from 17 September hints that elevated surface temperatures in the summit crater continue.
Alaid is the tallest and northernmost volcano in the Kurile Islands and it is one of its most active volcanoes.
