Stromboli News

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etneo Observatory (INGV) recorded a spectacular explosion from the North crater area at 02:56 local time today.

Much of the ejected incandescent material slid down to the upper Sciara del Fuoco, but some of the glowing bombs traveled up to the coastline.
The maximum amplitude tremor (02:56 local time) rapidly decreased to values that preceded the eruption.
The tiltmeter detected a minor ground deformation by 0.05 microradians at 02:55 local time.
After the eruptive phase, strombolian activity has continued mostly from N2 vent within the North crater with frequent low-intensity bursts.
