Reventador volcano (Ecuador): eruption triggered pyroclastic flow

A vigorous explosion occurred at the volcano yesterday that culminated both in a pyroclastic flow and a dense, dark ash column.

The pyroclastic flow, caused by the eruption column collapse, traveled over the southern and southeastern slopes.
Ash plume rose approx. 3,9300 ft (1,000 m) above the summit and drifted west-northwest.
The lava flow continues to be active on the northeast slope of the volcano and its collapsing parts generated incandescent avalanches reaching length of about 500 m from the summit.
