An explosion at Semeru produced a dense grey ash plume at 05:35 local time today, which reached approx. 15,400 ft (4,676 m) altitude and drifted north.
The eruption triggered a small pyroclastic flow descending to the base of the edifice.
The volcano observatory reported a seismic signal with a maximum amplitude of 20 mm and a duration of 332 seconds.
