Strombolian Activity News of Fuego

Strombolian activity has been picking up at the summit vent over the past two days.

The INSIVUMEH volcano observatory recorded a typical steep rise of volcanic tremor, indicated magma moving upwards through the volcanic conduits.
Strong explosions took place from the volcano, sending incandescent material to an approximate height of 200 to 300 meters above the crater. Ash plumes reached approx. 15,400 ft (4,700 m) altitude and extended to the south and west of the volcano.
A new lava flow started to emerge from a vent in direction of Ceniza Canyon, currently about 500 m long. Collapsing parts of the flow generated moderate avalanches towards Seca, Trinidad, Taniluyá and Las Lajas ravines as it descended the slope.
