The Icelandic Meteorological Office's (IMO) field research on the volcano took place last week.

Scientists Dr. Melissa Anne Pfeffer and Dr. Michelle Parks visited the area to make a geochemical and ground deformation survey accompanied by other scientists and park rangers.
Preliminary results don't hint any significant changes in gases and/or water so far (current measurements are still ongoing) compared to previous years. Temperature and pH analysis don't show clear changes in the geothermal activity within the Viti crater. On 12 August, a steam plume was reported at the cliff of Bátnshraun, but this was recognized as dust, resulting in a minor rockfall on the steep slope of the caldera.
About the ground deformation investigation, five GPS stations were set up at various locations within the caldera. Electronic tilt recordings, measured on the 1921 and 1961 lava fields, brought no significant inflation since the last analysis in August last year.
