News from Ambae Volcano

 




A large amount of SO2 concentrations in the atmosphere have been recorded from the volcano by the MOUNTS satellite-based measurements on 15 November.

Local residents in the northern and southern parts of the island reported the strong smell of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and heard explosions.
The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department (VMGD) seismic instrument detected a slight increase in seismic activity.
The Volcanic Alert Level remains at Level 2 (major unrest).
People, tourist agencies and authorities are advised to stay away 2 km from the crater within lake Vui.
