Developments of Piton de la Founaise

Since 10 June, seismic recordings of the Observatoire Volcanologique du Piton de la Fournaise (OVPF) registered an increased seismic activity beneath the volcano.

57 volcano-tectonic, low magnitude (< M 1)earthquakes have been localized at depth between 1.5 and 2 km under the Dolomieu crater.
The resurgence of the seismic activity follows of a pressurization of magma within magma reservoir and signals its resuming. This process may take several days to weeks until the pressure within chamber is sufficient enough to trigger magma intrusion into the dike/s. Opposite, signs of elevated activity may cease.
