Stromboli Activity News

A phase of short intense activity occurred at the volcano yesterday.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etneo Observatory (INGV) reported that a vigorous lava spattering was seen from the northern sector of the crater terrace starting about 16:50 local time producing incandescent avalanches.
Accumulated glowing lava blocks detached from it and descended on the Sciara del Fuoco to the shore.
At 18:30 local time, a small lava flow was being observed at the upper part of the Sciara del Fuoco.
A typical precursor has been detected prior to the eruption when a moderate rise of volcanic tremor at 16:40 local time indicated rapid magma flux towards the surface.
At 22:25 local time, the activity returned back to medium-low levels and the effusive eruption ceased.
