Krakatau_Selective Activity News

After 2,5 months since the last eruptive phase, the second such episode of vigorous explosions occurred at the volcano and is now in progress.

The eruptive activity started on 15 April with minor explosion that could be considered as the beginning of this series.
Vulcanian-type explosions continued to be mild only, which quickly become stronger and near-continuous on 18 April.
Grey ash-rich plumes rose to an estimated 857 and 957 m altitude first, then reached up to 2,1 km altitude and drifted SW.
A visible glow in the midnight of 17 Apr while erupting may suggest rise of fresh, juvenile basaltic andesite-to-andesitic and dacitic magma.

The volcano observatory reported a seismic signal with a maximum amplitude of 45-to-68 mm and a duration of 40-to-105 seconds so far.
