A number of larger earthquakes have been occurring in the lava dome area since 11 December that were felt by residents of nearby communities.
The extrusive activity of the volcano is intensifying at west-southwest part of the dome, this continues to culminate in frequent glowing moderate-to-strong block-and-ash flows traveling over the south, southwest and southeast slopes. An incandescence in the lava dome is associated with this process.
Strong explosive eruptions produced steam, gas and ash plumes, which reached approx. 14,700 ft (4,500 m) altitude and drifted about 30 km to the west of the volcano.
